Spatial Profiling

Spatial profiling is the measurement and analysis of how properties, signals, or components vary across physical space, providing context that conventional bulk measurements can obscure. It works by assigning observations to defined locations through imaging, sensor arrays, mapping, or other spatially resolved measurement systems, then linking position with quantitative data to reveal patterns and relationships. In engineering, spatial profiling supports material characterization, device diagnostics, process monitoring, and analysis of complex biological or environmental systems. By identifying local variation, gradients, defects, and interactions, it helps researchers understand system behavior, improve designs, guide quality control, and develop more precise models and interventions.

Comprehensive Spatial Profiling of Species-agnostic Transcriptomes via Stereo-seq

2025

This article presents a protocol to perform comprehensive spatial transcriptomic profiling of host, viral, fungal, and microbiome RNA from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections using Stereo-seq, which enables high-resolution mapping of diverse transcriptomes while preserving tissue architecture.

Calcified Artery Preparation and Processing with Preserved Morphology and RNA for Digital Spatial Profiling

2026

This protocol includes a step-by-step workflow for calcified vascular specimens: tissue handling, decalcification, RNA validation, calcification level detection, and region-of-interest selection strategies on the Nanostring GeoMx Digital Spatial Profiler (DSP). The goal is to present a comprehensive method for preserving vascular tissue morphology and RNA for reliable spatial transcriptomic analysis.

Spatial Separation of Molecular Conformers and Clusters

We present a technique that allows the spatial separation of different conformers or clusters present in a molecular beam. An electrostatic deflector is used to separate species by their mass-to-dipole moment ratio, leading to the production of gas-phase ensembles of a single conformer or cluster stoichiometry.

Spatial Cueing

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Attention refers to the limited human ability to select some information for processing at the expense of other stimuli in the environment. Attention operates in all sensory modalities: vision, hearing, touch, even taste and smell. It is most often studied in the visual domain though. A common way to study visual attention is with a spatial cueing paradigm. This paradigm allows researchers to measure the consequences of focusing...
