Lung Tissue Biobanking

Lung tissue biobanking is the systematic collection, processing, storage, and distribution of human lung specimens for research, preserving biological material and associated clinical information for future studies. After surgical resection, biopsy, or autopsy, tissues may be divided for fixation, cryopreservation, or isolation of viable cells, while controlled handling and annotated metadata help maintain morphology, nucleic acids, proteins, and cellular function. In immunology and infection research, these repositories enable analysis of host responses, pathogen distribution, tissue injury, and treatment effects across diseases and time points. Standardized protocols and quality control improve reproducibility while reducing dependence on newly collected samples.
