Non-surgical Method

Non-surgical methods are approaches that diagnose, prevent, monitor, or treat disease without operative incision, making them important when tissue disruption, anesthesia, or recovery time should be minimized. In immunology and infection research, they commonly rely on external measurements, biological samples, or targeted agents: immune markers and pathogen components can be detected in collected fluids, while medicines can alter microbial growth or regulate host immune responses. These methods support screening, infection surveillance, treatment selection, and longitudinal assessment of immune function, often enabling repeated measurements in the same individual. Their broader value lies in improving access to care and generating clinically useful data with less procedural burden.

2011

Here, we established a method for drug efficacy testing with surgical specimens of brain tumors, termed “tumor explant method”. With this method, we can evaluate drug efficacy without breaking the microenvironment of solid tumors. To validate reliability of this method, we describe representative data with our glioma specimen treated with the current first-line chemotherapeutic agent, temozolomide.
