Real Time Ocr Profile

A real-time OCR profile is a time-resolved measurement of oxygen consumption rate, used to characterize cellular respiration and energy metabolism as conditions change. In an extracellular flux assay, an instrument tracks oxygen depletion in a confined measurement chamber, while sequential additions of metabolic modulators such as oligomycin, FCCP, and rotenone plus antimycin A distinguish ATP-linked respiration, maximal respiratory capacity, and non-mitochondrial oxygen use. In immunology and infection research, these profiles reveal how immune activation, pathogen exposure, or therapeutic compounds alter mitochondrial function, helping researchers compare cellular bioenergetics, identify metabolic dysfunction, and connect respiration with host defense.
