Sodium Hyaluronate

Sodium hyaluronate is the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid, a negatively charged glycosaminoglycan that binds water and helps organize extracellular matrices, making it important in tissue hydration, repair, and host defense. Its biological effects depend partly on polymer size: high-molecular-weight chains can support barrier function and dampen inflammation, whereas fragmented hyaluronate generated during tissue injury or infection may act as a danger-associated molecular pattern, engaging receptors such as Toll-like receptors 2 and 4 to influence cytokine production and leukocyte responses. In immunology and infection research, sodium hyaluronate is studied in wound healing, biomaterial design, vaccine or drug delivery, and strategies that regulate inflammation without compromising antimicrobial protection.

Creating experimental retinal detachments with a reproducible and sustained height of detachment, and without subretinal hemorrhage, is important for studying the pathophysiology of photoreceptor cell loss in retinal disease and evaluating potential therapeutic interventions. Here, we report such a method in detail.

Regulation of Sodium and Potassium

2024

The regulation of sodium and potassium ion concentrations in the human body is a complex process governed primarily by hormones such as aldosterone, antidiuretic hormone (ADH), and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP). Sodium Regulation Sodium ions make up approximately 90% of extracellular cations, with a normal blood plasma concentration of 136–148 mEq/L. A decrease in blood volume and pressure triggers the release of renin from granular cells in the juxtaglomerular complex (JGC), primarily in...
