Factor Identification

Factor identification is the mathematical process of determining the numbers, quantities, or algebraic expressions that multiply to produce a given value or expression. For integers, it relies on divisibility tests, common factors, and prime factorization, while algebraic factor identification uses patterns such as the difference of squares, greatest common factors, and polynomial structure to rewrite expressions as products. This skill supports simplifying fractions, solving equations, finding least common multiples, and analyzing numerical relationships. In more advanced mathematics, recognizing factors helps reveal structure, reduce computational complexity, and prepare expressions for proofs, modeling, and further symbolic manipulation.

We present a protocol to demonstrate a novel somatic gene transfer system utilizing RIP-Tag; RIP-tva mouse model to study the function of genes in metastasis. The avian retroviruses are delivered intracardiacally to ensure gene transfer into pre-malignant, noninvasive lesions of pancreatic β cells in adult mice.

University of Notre Dame, IN A fundamental requirement of biomedical research is the proper identification of research animals. It is essential that the right animal is utilized for procedures and data collection. Laboratory mice and rats can be identified with the following permanent methods: ear tags, ear punch codes, microchip implantation, tail tattoos for adult mice, and toe tattoos for neonates. Temporary methods of...

Here, we present the protocols to identify 1) virus-encoded immunomodulators that promote arbovirus replication and 2) eukaryotic host factors that restrict arbovirus replication. These fluorescence- and luminescence-based methods allow researchers to rapidly obtain quantitative readouts of arbovirus replication in simplistic assays with low signal-to-noise ratios.
