Line Of Sight

Line of sight is the unobstructed path between an observer and a visible object, a concept that helps describe visibility, position, and spatial relationships. In mathematics, it is modeled as a straight line or ray connecting two points, allowing geometric methods to determine whether obstacles block the path or to calculate viewing angles, distances, and elevations. These relationships support problems involving triangles, coordinates, and perspective. Line-of-sight analysis is applied in surveying, navigation, astronomy, communications, and computer graphics, where it helps predict visibility, map locations, assess terrain, and represent how objects appear from different viewpoints.

Sight Distance in a Vertical Curve

2025

Sight distance on vertical curves is critical in roadway design. It ensures drivers can see far enough ahead to identify and respond to hazards effectively. This directly impacts safety, driver comfort, and the overall efficiency of the transportation network.Vertical curves are classified into crest and sag curves based on their geometry. For crest curves, sight distance is determined by the line of sight between a driver's eye and a small object on the road's surface. Design parameters for...

Focal demyelination is induced in the optic nerve using lysolecithin microinjection. Visual evoked potentials are recorded via skull electrodes implanted over the visual cortex to examine the signal conduction along the visual pathway in vivo. This protocol details the surgical procedures underlying electrode implantation and optic nerve microinjection.

This protocol describes the porcine myocardial infarction (MI) model using a 90 min closed-chest coronary balloon occlusion of the left anterior descending artery (LAD), followed by reperfusion. Furthermore, the protocol for several outcome parameters, such as cardiac function, hemodynamics, microvascular resistance, and infarct size, are also presented.

Assessing Cell Viability and Death in 3D Spheroid Cultures of Cancer Cells

Here, we present several simple methods for evaluating viability and death in 3D cancer cell spheroids, which mimic the physico-chemical gradients of in vivo tumors much better than the 2D culture. The spheroid model, therefore, allows evaluation of the cancer drug efficacy with improved translation to in vivo conditions.

Self-report vs. Behavioral Measures of Recycling

2023

Source: Laboratories of Gary Lewandowski, Dave Strohmetz, and Natalie Ciarocco—Monmouth University One of the challenges in measuring an experimental variable is identifying the technique that will produce the more accurate measurement. The most common way to measure a dependent variable is self-report—asking the participant to describe his/her feelings, thoughts, or behaviors. Yet, people may not be honest. To truly know something about a participant, it may be necessary to see what they...
