4d Analysis Software

4D analysis software comprises computational tools that analyze three-dimensional structures as they change over time, adding a temporal dimension to conventional medical imaging and measurement. These systems typically align image datasets from successive time points, segment anatomical or pathological regions, and quantify motion, growth, deformation, or flow through 3D visualization and time-resolved analysis. In medicine, 4D analysis supports evaluation of organ function, disease progression, treatment response, and dynamic processes such as cardiac or respiratory motion. By converting complex imaging sequences into measurable trajectories, it can improve interpretation, support surgical and therapeutic planning, and provide quantitative evidence for clinical and biomedical research.

This protocol describes the analysis of fluorescently labeled intracellular compartments in budding yeast using multi-color 4D (time-lapse 3D) confocal microscopy. The imaging parameters are chosen to capture adequate signals while limiting photodamage. Custom ImageJ plugins allow labeled structures to be tracked and quantitatively analyzed.
