Capsular Bag

The capsular bag is the transparent, elastic membrane that surrounds the eye’s crystalline lens and helps maintain its position and shape. Formed by the anterior and posterior lens capsules, it connects with zonular fibers that suspend the lens and transmit forces during accommodation. In cataract surgery, surgeons remove the cloudy lens while preserving the capsular bag, often creating a controlled opening called a capsulorhexis to place and stabilize an intraocular lens. Residual lens epithelial cells can migrate and proliferate on the posterior capsule, causing posterior capsule opacification, a common complication that may be treated with a YAG laser capsulotomy.

2026

The Foldable Capsular Vitreous Body (FCVB) is an intraocular implant that encapsulates silicone oil within a flexible capsule to reduce silicone oil-related complications. This protocol describes the surgical implantation of the FCVB via scleral incision for the treatment of complex retinal detachment and ocular trauma.

Isolation of Human Monocytes by Double Gradient Centrifugation and Their Differentiation to Macrophages in Teflon-coated Cell Culture Bags

We present a simple and efficient protocol for the generation of human macrophages. Buffy coats are processed by double density gradient centrifugation and isolated monocytes are then differentiated to macrophages in Teflon-coated cell culture bags. This maximizes macrophage yields and facilitates cell harvesting for subsequent experiments.

Modified Long Head of Biceps Tendon Rerouting and Fixation as Partial Capsular Reconstruction for Massive Irreparable Rotator Cuff Tears
