Coronary Sinus Catheter

A coronary sinus catheter is a thin, flexible tube positioned in the coronary sinus, the major venous channel draining blood from the heart muscle, to access cardiac venous circulation and monitor cardiac function. Clinicians advance it through the venous system under imaging and place its electrodes or ports within the coronary sinus, allowing electrical signals, pressure, or blood samples to be recorded or collected from a defined cardiac location. In medicine, coronary sinus catheters support electrophysiology studies, cardiac mapping, hemodynamic assessment, and selected procedures requiring targeted access to cardiac veins. These measurements help characterize rhythm disorders and guide diagnosis or treatment.

Surgical correction of ALCAPA is highly recommended, regardless of age or the degree of intercoronary collateralization. This protocol presents a technique for the direct re-implantation of adult-type ALCAPA into the aorta to re-establish the dual-coronary perfusion. Whenever feasible, direct re-implantation is preferred to other surgical correction techniques.

Source: Richard Glickman-Simon, MD, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health and Community Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine, MA This video provides an overview of sinus, nose, and throat examinations. The demonstration begins with a brief overview of the anatomy of the region. The upper third of the nose is bony, and the bottom two-thirds are cartilaginous. Air entering the nares passes through the nasal vestibules and into the narrow passageway between the nasal septum...
