Cyst Volume Measurement

Cyst volume measurement is the quantitative assessment of fluid-filled lesion size, providing more information than a single diameter for clinical evaluation and follow-up. Clinicians estimate volume from ultrasound, computed tomography, or magnetic resonance images by outlining the cyst boundary across imaging slices or applying geometric formulas to measured dimensions, with accuracy depending on image quality and boundary definition. In medicine, serial volume measurements help track cyst growth or regression, compare treatment responses, support risk assessment, and improve communication among care teams. Standardized measurement also supports research by enabling objective comparisons across patients, imaging sessions, and therapeutic studies.

2023

Solutions are utilized to some degree in almost all biological research applications. Therefore understanding how to measure and manipulate them is imperative to any experiment. In this video, concepts in preparing solutions are introduced. Solutions consist of a solute dissolved in solvent to yield a homogeneous mixture of molecular substances. Solutions are generally identified by their components and corresponding concentrations. Concentrated solutions are diluted through various...

Here we present a protocol to simply and reliably measure the lung pressure-volume curve in mice, showing that it is sufficiently sensitive to detect phenotypic parenchymal changes in two common lung pathologies, pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema. This metric provides a means to quantify the lung’s structural changes with developing pathology.

Microscopic Cyst Resection for the Treatment of Patients Diagnosed with Epididymal Cyst

Here, we present a protocol to treat patients diagnosed with an epididymal cyst using microscopic cyst resection. Based on microscopic manipulation, a largely improved visualization of the subtle tissue structures of the epididymis was obtained, so the cyst could be clearly dissected apart and completely removed intact.
