Endoscopic Debridement

Endoscopic debridement is a minimally invasive procedure that uses an endoscope and specialized instruments to visualize and remove infected, dead, or damaged tissue from a body cavity or surgical site. Under direct visualization, clinicians introduce the endoscope through a natural opening or small incision, irrigate the area when needed, and excise obstructing material while preserving viable tissue and limiting disruption to surrounding structures. In medicine, this approach can help control infection, improve drainage, relieve obstruction, and support healing in conditions such as chronic sinus disease, wound complications, and selected postoperative infections. It may also reduce recovery time compared with more extensive open procedures.

Source: Wang, L., et.al. Full-Endoscopic Isolation Zone Technique for the Treatment of Lumbar Disc Herniation. J. Vis. Exp.(2023)This video demonstrates a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure to treat lumbar disc herniation by removing the protruded nucleus pulposus and ruptured annulus fibrosus. The technique decompresses the affected nerve root, alleviates pain, and restores nerve function through targeted tissue resection and radiofrequency modulation.
