Fast Anatomical Mapping

Fast anatomical mapping is a medical imaging and visualization approach that rapidly represents the location, shape, and relationships of anatomical structures. It works by acquiring spatial measurements or image data, registering them to a common coordinate system, and converting the information into a two- or three-dimensional map that clinicians can interpret in near real time. In medicine, these maps can support diagnosis, procedure planning, image-guided intervention, and navigation through complex anatomy. By reducing the time required to characterize tissues and structures, fast anatomical mapping may improve procedural efficiency, help integrate anatomy with functional data, and strengthen individualized clinical decision-making.

Motor Maps

Source: Laboratories of Jonas T. Kaplan and Sarah I. Gimbel—University of Southern California One principle of brain organization is the topographic mapping of information. Especially in sensory and motor cortices, adjacent regions of the brain tend to represent information from adjacent parts of the body, resulting in maps of the body expressed on the surface of the brain. The primary sensory and motor maps in the brain surround a prominent sulcus known as the central sulcus. The cortex...

Coordinate Mapping of Hyolaryngeal Mechanics in Swallowing

Coordinate mapping is a method of documenting salient features of hyolaryngeal biomechanics in the pharyngeal phase of swallowing. This methodology uses image analysis software to record coordinates of anatomical landmarks. These coordinates are imported into an excel macro and translated into kinematic variables of interest useful in dysphagia research.

This article describes the technique used to perform dual channel optical mapping in cultured HL-1 atrial cell monolayers. This unique protocol allows the simultaneous visualization of both calcium (Ca) and voltage (Vm) activity in the same area for the detailed detection and analysis of electrophysiological properties of culture monolayers.
