Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma is a malignant tumor that arises from the epithelial cells lining the bile ducts within the liver and is the second most common primary hepatic cancer. It develops when genetic and epigenetic alterations disrupt biliary cell growth, survival, and differentiation, producing invasive tumors that can obstruct bile flow and spread through hepatic tissue. Diagnosis combines clinical assessment with imaging, histopathology, and molecular profiling to distinguish it from hepatocellular carcinoma and metastatic disease. Understanding its biology supports staging and treatment selection, including surgery for localized tumors and systemic or targeted therapies for advanced disease.

2026

The protocol presents a step-by-step laparoscopic protocol for radical resection of Bismuth-Corlette type IIIb perihilar cholangiocarcinoma. The procedure integrates preoperative PTCD, complex vascular dissection and repair, and biliary reconstruction for application in high-volume hepatobiliary centers.

Human tumor xenografts in immunodeficient mice are valuable tools to study cancer biology. Specific protocols to generate subcutaneous and intrahepatic xenografts from human hepatocellular carcinoma cells or tumor fragments are described. Liver regeneration induced by partial hepatectomy in recipient mice is presented as a strategy to facilitate intrahepatic engraftment.

Complete Laparoscopic Radical Resection of Perihilar Cholangiocarcinoma Type IIIb

2025

Perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA) is a highly malignant and aggressive tumor, with radical resection being the only curative treatment available. With continuous advancements in laparoscopic techniques and instruments, laparoscopic radical surgery for pCCA is now considered technically safe and feasible. However, due to the high complexity of the surgery and the lack of evidence-based clinical support, laparoscopic radical surgery for type IIIb pCCA is performed only in a few large...
