Intraoperative Complications

Intraoperative complications are unexpected adverse events that occur during a surgical procedure, threaten patient safety, and require immediate recognition and management. They can result from surgical injury, bleeding, anesthesia-related effects, equipment failure, or patient-specific factors, disrupting normal physiology while the operation is underway. Continuous monitoring of vital signs, operative findings, and equipment performance helps the surgical team identify deterioration, determine its cause, and take corrective action. Understanding these complications supports safer surgical planning, coordinated teamwork, timely intervention, and improved postoperative outcomes across medicine.
