Self-cinching Stitch

A self-cinching stitch is a surgical suturing technique designed to tighten and secure tissue approximation as tension is applied to the suture. Its looped configuration allows the suture to slide in one direction while resisting backward movement, causing the stitch to cinch around the tissue and maintain compression without repeated knot tying. In medicine, this technique can support wound closure, soft-tissue repair, and minimally invasive procedures where controlled tension and reliable fixation are important. Understanding its mechanics helps clinicians select appropriate suture strategies, improve handling in confined operative fields, and achieve stable tissue positioning during healing.

Full-root aortic valve replacement by stentless aortic xenograft is a viable option in patients with small aortic roots. We describe, a technique for the full-root implantation of stentless aortic xenografts, with emphasis on the management of the proximal suture line and coronary anastomoses, and discuss its limitations and alternative options.
