Vagal Nerve Discharge

Vagal nerve discharge is the generation and transmission of electrical impulses along the vagus nerve, a major component of the parasympathetic nervous system that links the brainstem with organs in the chest and abdomen. Discharge occurs when vagal fibers produce action potentials, with impulse frequency and timing influencing signals to and from the heart, lungs, and digestive tract. In medicine, analyzing vagal activity helps researchers understand autonomic regulation and its disruption in disease, while vagus nerve stimulation uses controlled electrical pulses to modify neural signaling. These applications support research into cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, neurological, and inflammatory conditions.

Effects of Different Connection Modes of Electroacupuncture on Electrocardiogram and Nerve Discharge in Rats

2025

Until now, there is no uniform method for electroacupuncture connection in clinical and fundamental research. We present a protocol that attempted to compare the effects of different connection methods on electrocardiogram (ECG) and neural discharge in rats to explore the most appropriate way to connect the electroacupuncture instrument.

RC Circuits: Discharging A Capacitor

2025

One of the applications of an RC circuit is the relaxation oscillator. The relaxation oscillator comprises a voltage source, a capacitor, a resistor, and a neon lamp. The lamp acts like an open circuit (infinite resistance) until the potential difference across the neon lamp reaches a specific voltage. At that voltage, the lamp acts like a short circuit (zero resistance), and the capacitor discharges through the neon lamp and produces light. Once the capacitor is fully discharged through the...

Loading Drosophila Nerve Terminals with Calcium Indicators

Calcium is a ubiquitous messenger in the nervous system, essential for triggering neurotransmitter release and changes in synaptic strength. Here we demonstrate a technique for loading Ca2+-indicators into Drosophila nerve terminals. We also demonstrate fabrication of the required apparatus and emphasize points critical for the technique's success.
