Biotin-conjugated Secondary Antibodies

Biotin-conjugated secondary antibodies are detection reagents that bind primary antibodies and carry biotin, a small vitamin-derived label that enables sensitive visualization of target molecules. In an assay, the secondary antibody recognizes species- or class-specific regions of the primary antibody, while biotin binds with high affinity to avidin or streptavidin linked to an enzyme or fluorescent reporter. This indirect labeling strategy can amplify signal and improve contrast in immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and related neuroscience experiments. Researchers use it to map proteins in brain tissue, examine neuronal structure, and quantify changes in molecular markers associated with development, circuitry, or disease.
