Cathodal Tdcs Application

Cathodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a noninvasive neuromodulation technique that applies a weak, constant electrical current to the scalp to influence activity in targeted brain regions. During cathodal stimulation, the negative electrode is positioned over the area of interest, where induced shifts in neuronal membrane potential can generally reduce cortical excitability, although effects depend on current intensity, electrode placement, stimulation duration, and individual physiology. In neuroscience, cathodal tDCS is used to investigate brain function, motor and cognitive processes, and mechanisms of neural plasticity. It also supports research into potential interventions for neurological and psychiatric conditions, while helping researchers evaluate safety, reproducibility, and therapeutic limitations.

High-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS), with its 4x1-ring montage, is a noninvasive brain stimulation technique that combines both the neuromodulatory effects of conventional tDCS with increased focality. This article provides a systematic demonstration of the use of 4x1 HD-tDCS, and the considerations needed for safe and effective stimulation.

2021

A protocol for memory enhancement by using transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) targeting dorsolateral prefrontal and posterior parietal cortices, as core cortical nodes within hippocampo-cortical network, is presented. The protocol has been well evaluated in healthy-participant studies and is applicable to aging and dementia research as well.
