Glycerol Dapi

Glycerol DAPI is a fluorescent mounting medium that combines glycerol with the DNA-binding dye 4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) to preserve specimens and visualize cell nuclei. DAPI permeates fixed cells, binds preferentially to A-T-rich regions of double-stranded DNA, and emits blue fluorescence when excited with ultraviolet or near-ultraviolet light, while glycerol helps maintain the mounted sample for microscopy. In neuroscience, this preparation supports fluorescence imaging of neuronal and glial nuclei in brain tissue and cultured cells. Nuclear labeling provides a reference for cell distribution, tissue organization, and quantitative analyses alongside markers for neural structures or proteins.
