Cardiovascular Disease

Cardiovascular disease is a group of disorders affecting the heart and blood vessels, including hypertension, coronary artery disease, heart failure, and stroke, and remains a major cause of illness and death worldwide. These conditions can develop through atherosclerotic plaque formation, inflammation, impaired vascular tone, thrombosis, or reduced cardiac pumping function. In pharmacology, medicines such as statins, antihypertensives, antiplatelet agents, anticoagulants, and diuretics target lipid levels, blood pressure, clot formation, and fluid balance. Understanding these mechanisms supports prevention, symptom control, risk reduction, and the development of safer, more effective, and increasingly individualized cardiovascular therapies.

Psychoneuroimmunology: Cardiovascular Disease

2025

Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) is a multidisciplinary field that examines how psychological factors, particularly stress, interact with the immune system and impact physical health. Research in PNI has shown that chronic or traumatic stress can disrupt both the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and the sympathetic nervous system. These disruptions contribute to serious health conditions, including cardiovascular diseases. A key area of focus in PNI is the relationship between stress and coronary...

This protocol demonstrates the workflow of the SILICOFCM platform for automatically generating a parametric model of the left ventricle from patient-specific ultrasound images by applying a multi-scale electromechanical model of the heart. This platform enables in silico clinical trials intended to reduce real clinical trials and maximize positive therapeutic outcomes.

Isolation and Excision of Murine Aorta; A Versatile Technique in the Study of Cardiovascular Disease

Pathology of the aorta can lead to severe morbidity and mortality, therefore research of disease progression and potential therapies is warranted. Here, we present a protocol to isolate and excise the murine aorta to aid researchers in their investigation of cardiovascular disease.

Dissection Techniques and Histological Sampling of the Heart in Large Animal Models for Cardiovascular Diseases

Due to the complex anatomy, a consistently reproducible dissection and harvesting protocol for cardiac samples can be challenging to implement. This manuscript presents the key elements of some standard cardiac dissection protocols, highlighting both the gross examination approaches and the sampling sites commonly used for histopathologic examination.
