Response Recording

Response recording is the systematic capture and documentation of how people react to stimuli, questions, tasks, or experimental conditions, making psychological behavior available for analysis. Researchers may record responses as written answers, verbal statements, button presses, choice patterns, reaction times, or observed behaviors, using standardized instructions and consistent coding procedures to improve reliability. These records help quantify cognition, emotion, perception, learning, and decision-making while enabling comparisons across participants and conditions. In psychology, response recording supports behavioral experiments, clinical assessment, human-computer interaction studies, and research evaluating changes in performance or behavior over time.

Recording Auditory Brainstem Responses in a Rat Pup

2025

This video demonstrates a method for recording auditory brainstem responses (ABRs) from rat pups. It outlines the steps for electrode placement, sound stimulus application, and signal processing analysis in the brainstem to assess neural responses.

Electrophysiological Recordings from Drosophila Sensilla in Response to Volatile Odorants

2025

In this video, a live Drosophila fly is mounted in a tube for electrophysiological studies. Electrodes are positioned at the base of the sensillum to record specific neuronal responses to pheromones with the fly's olfactory receptor neurons.

Preparation of an Awake Mouse for Recording Neural Responses and Injecting Tracers

Electrophysiological characterization of neuronal responses is important for understanding brain function and for guiding the placement of dyes for pathway tracing. However, many studies are performed in anesthetized animals. To understand brain function without anesthetics, we developed a method to record neuronal response properties and inject dyes in awake mouse.

The overall goal of this protocol is to demonstrate how to present odorants of low volatility for single-sensillum recording from Drosophila olfactory receptor neurons that respond to long-chain cuticular pheromones.

Recording Behavioral Responses to Reflection in Crayfish

We have developed two methods for studying effects of visual cues on behavior in the absence of tactile and chemical cues. One method involves videotaping responses of crayfish to reflective walls in an aquarium; the other examines effects of visual inputs provided by a live crayfish behind a transparent partition.
