Anisotropic Adhesive Film

Anisotropic adhesive film is a thin adhesive material whose bonding strength or detachment behavior varies with direction, offering controlled attachment beyond that of conventional uniform adhesives. This directional performance typically arises from oriented polymer structures, aligned fibers, surface patterns, or engineered interfaces that redistribute stresses differently during peeling, sliding, or stretching. In bioengineering, anisotropic adhesive films can help secure wearable sensors, tissue-contacting devices, wound dressings, and biomedical interfaces while enabling more predictable placement or directional removal. Their tunable mechanics and surface interactions may improve conformability, reduce unwanted tissue stress, and support reliable performance on soft, dynamic biological surfaces.

Sparks, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, The University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT Electroplating is a process that uses electric current to reduce dissolved metal cations so that they form a thin coating on an electrode. Other thin film deposition techniques include chemical vapor deposition (CVD), spin coating, dip coating, and sputter deposition among others. CVD uses a gas-phase precursor of the element to be...
