Magnetic Stirring Homogenization

Magnetic stirring homogenization is a laboratory technique that uses a rotating magnetic stir bar to mix liquids and produce a more uniform suspension or solution, supporting consistent sample preparation and experimental results. A magnetic field beneath the vessel couples with the bar, causing it to rotate and generate bulk fluid circulation, turbulence, and shear that disperse solutes, particles, or biological components under controlled stirring conditions. In biological techniques, the method helps prepare culture media, buffers, reagent mixtures, and cell-containing suspensions while improving concentration uniformity and reducing settling during processing; its simplicity, adjustable speed, and closed-vessel operation make it useful for routine laboratory workflows.

Test for Homogeneity

2023

The goodness–of–fit test can be used to decide whether a population fits a given distribution, but it will not suffice to decide whether two populations follow the same unknown distribution. A different test, called the test for homogeneity, can be used to conclude whether two populations have the same distribution. To calculate the test statistic for a test for homogeneity, follow the same procedure as with the test of independence. The hypotheses for the test for homogeneity can be stated as...

Power Input Measurements in Stirred Bioreactors at Laboratory Scale

2018

The power input in stirred bioreactors can be measured through the torque that acts on the impeller shaft during rotation. This manuscript describes how an air bearing can be used to effectively reduce friction losses observed in mechanical seals and improve the accuracy of power input measurements in small-scale vessels.

Here, we describe a magnetic separation-assisted high-speed homogenization method for large-scale production of endosome-derived nanovesicles as a new type of exosome mimics (EMs) that share the same biological origin and similar structure, morphology, and protein composition of native extracellular vesicles (EVs).
