Corneal Incision Technique

Corneal incision technique is a controlled surgical method for creating an opening in the cornea, the transparent tissue that forms the front of the eye, to enable ophthalmic treatment. The incision is positioned and shaped to provide access while limiting disruption to corneal layers; wound architecture influences tissue apposition, healing, and the restoration of the optical surface. In biology and vision research, studying corneal incisions helps explain tissue repair, biomechanical stability, and postoperative changes in transparency and refraction. The technique supports procedures involving removal or implantation of ocular structures and informs efforts to improve surgical precision and recovery.

Porcine Ex vivo Cornea Model of Bacterial Keratitis: A Technique to Establish Bacterial Infection in Corneal Epithelial Cells

2025

This video describes a protocol to set up an ex vivo model for bacterial keratitis using a corneoscleral button dissected from the porcine eye. Inoculated bacteria traverse the corneal epithelial incisions to invade the underlying stroma and establish an infection within the corneal tissues that mimic the in vivo infection.

Laser-assisted Selective Ablation of Porcine Corneal Endothelial Cells: A Technique to Induce Focused Porcine Corneal Endothelial Injury for Ex Vivo Studies

2025

This video demonstrates a non-invasive laser-assisted procedure to selectively damage the corneal endothelial cells in the porcine eye. The developed ex vivo model of endothelial cell damage can be used to study diseases of the corneal endothelium.

Ye's Swing Technique for Small-incision Lenticule Extraction Surgery

2025

We introduced an optimized surgical approach for small incision lenticule extraction, termed the Ye's Swing Technique. This technique enables the surgeon to perform lenticule separation and extraction more easily while minimizing the risk of incision-edge tears and lenticule fragmentation. The results of this study proved its safety and efficacy.

Endothelial corneal transplantation is a surgical technique for treatment of posterior corneal diseases. Mechanical microkeratome dissection to prepare tissue results in thinner, more symmetric grafts with less endothelial cell loss and improved outcomes. Dissections can be performed at the eye bank prior to corneal transplantation surgery.
