Fep Powder Hydrophobic Shell

FeP powder with a hydrophobic shell is a particulate material in which iron phosphide powder is surrounded by a water-repellent surface layer, helping control how the particles interact with aqueous environments. The shell works by presenting low-polarity chemical groups at the particle interface, reducing wetting and limiting direct contact between water and the FeP core; its effectiveness depends on shell composition, coverage, and stability. In biology-related research, this architecture can influence particle dispersion, aggregation, surface interactions, and compatibility with water-based systems. Understanding these properties supports the design and evaluation of functional powders for controlled biological and materials applications.

Calcium-Dependent Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography: A Technique to Purify Calcium-Binding Proteins Based on Hydrophobic Interactions

2025

In this video, we demonstrate the purification of calcium-binding protein from a dialyzed cell lysate through calcium-dependent hydrophobic interaction chromatography. The calcium-binding proteins expose a hydrophobic region upon binding with calcium, facilitating interaction with a hydrophobic group on resin. Later these proteins are eluted using calcium chelator EDTA that reverses the interaction.

Source: Tamara M. Powers, Department of Chemistry, Texas A&M University X-ray crystallography is a technique that uses X-rays to study the structure of molecules. X-ray diffraction (XRD) experiments are routinely carried out with either single-crystal or powdered samples. Single-crystal XRD: Single-crystal XRD allows for absolute structure determination. With single-crystal XRD data, the exact atomic positions can be observed, and thus bond lengths and angles can be determined. This...

Butyl-Dependant Hydrophobic Interaction Liquid Chromatography: A Technique to Characterize Antibody-Drug Conjugates Based on Hydrophobic Interactions

Source: Kerry M. Dooley and Michael G. Benton, Department of Chemical Engineering, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA Surface area and pore size distribution are attributes used by adsorbent and catalyst manufacturers and users to ensure quality control and to determine when products are at the end of their useful lives. The surface area of a porous solid is directly related to its adsorption capacity or catalytic activity. The pore size distribution of an adsorbent or catalyst is...
