Piezoelectric Ceramic

Piezoelectric ceramics are polycrystalline materials that convert mechanical stress into electrical charge and electrical voltage into mechanical deformation, making them important transducers in biomedical research. Their behavior arises from aligned electric dipoles within ferroelectric crystal domains: compression or vibration produces a measurable voltage, while an alternating voltage drives controlled expansion and contraction, generating acoustic waves. In cancer research, these materials support ultrasound probes and focused-ultrasound systems used to visualize tumors, monitor tissue properties, or deliver localized acoustic energy during experimental treatment studies. Their sensitivity, compact size, and bidirectional energy conversion also enable biosensing platforms for investigating tumor-associated biomarkers and cellular responses.
