Tumor Sampling

Tumor sampling is the collection of tumor tissue or cells from a patient or experimental model for pathological and molecular analysis, providing material for characterizing cancer and its heterogeneity. Samples are obtained through procedures such as surgical resection, core-needle biopsy, or fine-needle aspiration, then preserved and processed to maintain cellular features, tissue architecture, and nucleic acids for microscopy, immunohistochemistry, or genomic testing. In cancer research, carefully selected samples support diagnosis, biomarker discovery, tumor profiling, and evaluation of treatment response, while repeated or spatially distinct sampling can reveal changes within a tumor and guide more representative conclusions about disease biology.

Circulating tumor cells are isolated from the blood of cancer patients without inflicting cellular damage. Isolation of tumor cells is accomplished using a bimolecular surface of E-selectin in addition to antibodies against epithelial markers. A nanotube coating specifically promotes cancer cell adhesion resulting in high capture purities.
