Gas Uptake Measurement

Gas uptake measurement is the quantitative determination of how much gas a material absorbs, adsorbs, or consumes, providing insight into chemical composition, surface properties, and reactivity. In a controlled experiment, the gas is exposed to a sample while changes in pressure, volume, mass, or gas concentration are monitored under defined temperature and pressure conditions; these changes are converted into uptake values using calibration and gas-law relationships. In chemistry, the method supports adsorption studies, catalyst characterization, reaction analysis, and evaluation of porous materials. Uptake data can reveal active sites, binding behavior, capacity, and kinetics, helping researchers compare materials and understand gas-solid interactions.

Mitochondrial Calcium Uptake Assay: A Plate Reader-Based Method for Measuring Calcium Uptake in Isolated Mitochondria

2025

This video describes a plate reader-based assay to measure mitochondrial calcium uptake in isolated mitochondria. The assay analyzes the fluorescence signal of a calcium-sensitive fluorescent dye to study the kinetics of mitochondrial calcium uptake and calcium overload.

Measuring Dopamine Uptake in Mouse Brain Synaptosomes Using Radiolabeled Dopamine

2025

This video demonstrates the assessment of dopamine uptake in synaptosomes harvested from mouse brains. It outlines steps for preparing synaptosomes for dopamine uptake via dopamine transporters, treating them with varying concentrations of radiolabeled dopamine, isolating the synaptosomes, and measuring radioactivity to quantify dopamine uptake.

Calcium Influx Assay to Measure Mitochondrial Calcium Uptake in Cultured Cells

Gas Exchange and Transport

2019

Gas exchange, the intake of molecular oxygen (O2) from the environment and the outflow of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the environment, is necessary for cellular function. Gas exchange during respiration occurs largely via the movement of gas molecules along pressure gradients. Gas travels from areas of higher partial pressure to areas of lower partial pressure. In mammals, gas exchange occurs in the alveoli of the lungs, which are adjacent to capillaries and share a membrane with them. When the...

Measurement of Extracellular Fluorescent Glucose Analog Depletion: A Surrogate Measurement Technique to Assess Glucose Uptake in Mouse Organs Ex Vivo

2025

In this video, we demonstrate an ex vivo technique to measure extracellular glucose analog depletion in harvested mouse organs. It involves incubating the mouse tissue in a solution containing fluorescently-labeled deoxyglucose, which is taken up by the cells. The glucose analog uptake can be indirectly determined by measuring the fluorescence of the incubated medium.
