Drug Content Uniformity

Drug content uniformity is a quality-control measure that determines whether individual units within a pharmaceutical batch contain the intended amount of active ingredient. It typically involves selecting dosage units, extracting or dissolving their contents, and quantifying the active pharmaceutical ingredient with an analytical method, then comparing unit-to-unit results with established acceptance criteria. In clinical practice, consistent content helps ensure that tablets, capsules, or other dosage forms deliver predictable doses, supporting treatment efficacy and reducing risks associated with underdosing or overdosing. Testing also helps identify manufacturing variability and supports regulatory release decisions, stability assessment, and ongoing pharmaceutical quality assurance.

The uniform distribution is a continuous probability distribution of events with an equal probability of occurrence. This distribution is rectangular. Two essential properties of this distribution are The area under the rectangular shape equals 1. There is a correspondence between the probability of an event and the area under the curve.Further, the mean and standard deviation of the uniform distribution can be calculated when the lower and upper cut-offs, denoted as a and b,...
