Peritonsillar Abscess

Peritonsillar abscess is a localized collection of pus in the tissue beside the palatine tonsil, typically arising as a complication of bacterial tonsillitis or peritonsillar cellulitis. Infection and inflammation can extend through tissue planes, producing swelling that may displace the uvula and narrow the oropharyngeal airway, while causing severe unilateral throat pain, fever, muffled speech, and difficulty opening the mouth. In clinical practice, assessment focuses on recognizing these findings and distinguishing an abscess from cellulitis or other causes of sore throat. Prompt drainage, appropriate antimicrobial therapy, hydration, and airway monitoring can relieve infection, prevent spread, and reduce potentially serious complications.

2026

A brain abscess is a focal, intracerebral infection characterized by a localized collection of pus within the brain parenchyma, resulting from microbial invasion and the body’s inflammatory response. It progresses through stages: early and late cerebritis, followed by early and late capsule formation, reflecting tissue destruction, immune response, and eventual encapsulation.Etiology and PathogenesisCausative organisms vary with source and host factors, often involving polymicrobial infections,...

Posterior Approach for Debridement of the Psoas Abscess

2020

This is a cadaveric study investigating the landmarks for the posterior approach for irrigation and debridement of the psoas abscess. The interval between the transverse processes (TP) was used to access the substance of the psoas muscle.

This study evaluated endoscopic debridement for treating paravertebral abscesses in patients with spinal tuberculosis. Compared to conventional surgery, it significantly improved surgery time, blood loss, hospital stay, pain relief, and neurological outcomes, with fewer complications and no recurrences. These findings highlight its efficacy and safety. Further long-term studies are recommended.

A Unique Mouse Model for Quantitative Assessment of Biofilm Formation on Surgical Implants in Subcutaneous Abscess

This protocol describes a unique experimental model of implant-related infections that enables the simultaneous incubation of two implants with bacteria under identical conditions within a single mouse. It also allows precise assessment of biofilm formation on implant surfaces using optimized comparative analytical methods, demonstrating advanced techniques for evaluating biomaterials' antimicrobial properties.
