Symptom Recognition

Symptom Recognition is the clinical process of identifying and interpreting patient-reported symptoms and observable signs to determine whether they indicate a health problem and require further evaluation. It combines information about onset, duration, severity, pattern, associated findings, and relevant history with physical examination and, when appropriate, diagnostic testing; clinicians then compare the findings with plausible conditions while considering alternative explanations. In clinical practice, accurate Symptom Recognition supports triage, prioritization of urgent care, differential diagnosis, patient communication, and monitoring of disease progression or response to treatment.
