Cortical Trabecular Interaction

Cortical trabecular interaction describes how the dense outer cortical bone and porous inner trabecular bone share loads and influence one another’s mechanical behavior. Forces transferred between these regions depend on their stiffness, architecture, connectivity, and interfaces, allowing the cortical shell to provide structural support while trabecular struts distribute stresses through the interior. In engineering, understanding this interaction informs computational models of bone, implant and scaffold design, and the assessment of fracture risk. It also supports strategies for matching implant stiffness to native bone, improving load transfer, and reducing stress shielding in orthopedic applications.

Trabecular meshwork (TM) migration into Schlemm’s canal space can be induced by acute pressure elevation by ophthalmodynamometer, and observed by spectral domain optical coherence tomography. The goal of this method is to quantify the morphometric response of the living outflow tract to acute pressure elevation in living tissues in situ.

Outer-Boundary Assisted Segmentation and Quantification of Trabecular Bones by an Imagej Plugin

2018

We present a workflow for segmenting and quantifying trabecular bones for 2D and 3D images based on the bone's outer boundary using an ImageJ plugin. This approach is more efficient and accurate than the current manual hand-contouring approach, and provides layer-by-layer quantifications, which are not available in current commercial software.

Astrocytes have been recognized to be versatile cells participating in fundamental biological processes that are essential for normal brain development and function, and central nervous system repair. Here we present a rapid procedure to obtain pure mouse astrocyte cultures to study the biology of this major class of central nervous system cells.

Right-angle microprisms inserted into the mouse neocortex allows for deep imaging of multiple cortical layers with a viewpoint typically found in slice. One-millimeter microprisms offer a wide field-of-view (~900 μm) and spatial resolutions sufficient to resolve dendritic spines. We demonstrate layer V neuronal imaging and neocortical vascular imaging using microprisms.
