Fluid Dynamics Experiment

A fluid dynamics experiment is a controlled investigation of how liquids or gases move and interact with surfaces, boundaries, and applied forces, providing evidence for principles used throughout engineering. By varying conditions such as flow rate, pressure, geometry, or fluid properties and measuring responses such as velocity, drag, or pressure changes, researchers connect observed behavior to conservation of mass and momentum. These experiments can characterize laminar and turbulent flow, evaluate pipes, pumps, airfoils, and other systems, and validate computational or theoretical models, supporting safer designs and more efficient transport, energy, and manufacturing technologies.

This manuscript describes a protocol that applies comprehensive profiling for analysis of transcriptional programs induced in specific brain nuclei of rodents following behavioral paradigms. Herein, this approach is illustrated in the context of profiling genes induced in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) of mice following acute cocaine exposure, utilizing microfluidic qPCR arrays.

2023

Source: Joseph C. Muskat, Vitaliy L. Rayz, and Craig J. Goergen, Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana The objective of this video is to describe recent advancements of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations based on patient- or animal-specific vasculature. Here, subject-based vessel segmentations were created, and, using a combination of open-source and commercial tools, a high-resolution numerical solution was determined within a flow model.

Drop impact of non-Newtonian fluids is a complex process since different physical parameters influence the dynamics over a very short time (less than one tenth of a millisecond). A fast imaging technique is introduced in order to characterize the impact behaviors of different non-Newtonian fluids.

Melts and fluids are ubiquitous vectors of mass transport in natural systems. We have developed an open-source package to analyze ab initio molecular-dynamics simulations of such systems. We compute structural (bonding, clusterization, chemical speciation), transport (diffusion, viscosity) and thermodynamic properties (vibrational spectrum).
