Particle Number Concentration

Particle number concentration is the quantity of discrete particles present in a unit volume of gas or liquid, providing a direct measure of particle abundance that complements mass-based measurements. Instruments determine it by sampling a known volume and counting particles individually, often through light scattering in optical particle counters or growth by condensation in condensation particle counters. In engineering, particle number concentration supports aerosol characterization, air-quality monitoring, cleanroom validation, filtration testing, and contamination control. Measurements can reveal changes in particle size distributions and transport behavior, helping engineers evaluate emissions, optimize ventilation and filtration systems, and assess exposure or process performance.

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Michael Evans — Georgia Institute of Technology A solution is a homogeneous mixture containing some components in small amounts, called solutes, and one component in a large amount, called the solvent. Solid-liquid solutions contain one or more solid solutes dissolved in a liquid solvent. Solutions are ubiquitous in chemistry: they are used to store and handle small amounts of material, carry out chemical reactions, and develop materials with controllable properties.

Since the reaction solution starts clear and colorless, you can easily tell when it reaches that concentration. You'll use the same test tube and total volume each time, so it will take the same amount...

Development of a Nose-only Inhalation Toxicity Test Chamber That Provides Four Exposure Concentrations of Nano-sized Particles

A nose-only inhalation toxicity chamber capable of testing inhalation toxicity at four different exposure concentrations was designed and validated for flow field uniformity and cross-contamination between the exposure ports for each concentration. Here, we present a protocol to confirm that the designed chamber is effective for inhalation toxicity testing.
