Porous Substrate Deposition

Porous substrate deposition is the process of placing a material onto or within an interconnected porous support to create a functional coating or composite structure. By controlling precursor concentration, flow, wetting, and drying, deposition can promote surface coverage, pore infiltration, or selective accumulation; the deposited phase then adheres to pore walls or consolidates during curing, sintering, or other solidification steps. This engineering approach tailors permeability, surface area, mechanical stability, and electrical or catalytic performance, supporting the manufacture of filters, membranes, catalyst supports, porous electrodes, and sensors. It can also improve material efficiency by locating active material where fluid transport and interfacial reactions occur.

Porous substrate electroporation (PSEP) pairs consistent, high throughput delivery with high cell viability. Introduction of transepithelial electrical impedance (TEEI) measurements provides insight into the intermediate processes of PSEP and allows for label-free delivery. This article discusses a method for performing PSEP delivery experiments and TEEI measurement analysis simultaneously.

We present a procedure for highly controlled and wrinkle-free transfer of block copolymer thin films onto porous support substrates using a 3D-printed drain chamber. The drain chamber design is of general relevance to all procedures involving transfer of macromolecular films onto porous substrates, which is normally done by hand in an irreproducible fashion.

We describe the experimental method to deposit nanostructured oxide thin films by nanosecond Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) in the presence of a background gas. By using this method Al-doped ZnO (AZO) films, from compact to hierarchically structured as nano-tree forests, can be deposited.
