Trapezoidal Windows

Trapezoidal windows are piecewise-defined weighting functions used to select and shape a finite portion of data, with linearly rising and falling edges surrounding an optional constant central region. Applied to a sequence before Fourier analysis, the window gradually reduces the weights near the boundaries, limiting abrupt endpoint changes and helping reduce spectral leakage. Adjusting the ramp lengths and plateau width controls the balance between frequency resolution and sidelobe suppression. In mathematics and signal processing, trapezoidal windows provide a flexible model for analyzing sampled signals, designing filters, and studying how finite observation intervals influence frequency-domain results.

Trapezoidal Rule

Estimating the distance traveled by a vehicle using its recorded velocity over time is a common problem in physics and engineering. When velocity data is available at discrete time intervals, rather than as a continuous function, numerical integration methods such as the trapezoidal rule are often employed to approximate the total displacement. The trapezoidal rule works by dividing the total time interval into several equal segments. Within each segment, the recorded velocities at the endpoints...

An approach is here presented for long-term intravital imaging using optically clear, silicone windows that can be glued directly to the tissue/organ of interest and the skin. These windows are cheaper and more versatile than others currently used in the field, and the surgical insertion causes limited inflammation and distress to the animals.
