Annular Stapler

An annular stapler is a surgical instrument that creates a circular line of staples while simultaneously removing a central ring of tissue, enabling rapid, consistent joining of hollow organs. During use, the surgeon positions tissue between the stapler’s anvil and cartridge, adjusts compression, and activates the device so staggered staples form an anastomosis as an integrated circular blade excises excess tissue. Annular staplers are widely used in gastrointestinal procedures, including colorectal, esophageal, and gastric surgery, where they can standardize tissue approximation and reduce manual suturing time. Proper sizing, tissue alignment, and inspection of the completed anastomosis remain essential for secure healing and minimizing complications.
