Cardiac Mri Analysis

Cardiac MRI analysis is the systematic interpretation of magnetic resonance images to assess the heart’s anatomy, function, tissue characteristics, and blood flow without ionizing radiation. The technique uses strong magnetic fields and radiofrequency pulses to generate images, while electrocardiographic gating synchronizes data acquisition with the cardiac cycle; specialized sequences and, when appropriate, gadolinium-based contrast highlight motion, perfusion, edema, and scar. Clinicians and researchers use cardiac MRI analysis to evaluate ventricular function, cardiomyopathies, myocardial infarction, congenital heart disease, and valvular disorders. Quantitative measurements and tissue characterization support diagnosis, risk assessment, treatment planning, and monitoring of disease progression.

Contrast enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging allows comprehensive in vivo assessment of the heart in small animal models of cardiovascular disease. Here we detail the procedures to perform CMR imaging, reconstruction and analysis using Small Animal Lock-Locker Inversion Recovery (SALLI) in rats.

Source: Frederick W. Damen and Craig J. Goergen, Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana In this video, high field, small-bore magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with physiological monitoring is demonstrated to acquire gated cine loops of the murine cardiovascular system. This procedure provides a basis for assessing left-ventricular function, visualizing vascular networks, and quantifying motion of organs due to respiration. Comparable small animal...

Source: Flatz, W. H. et al. In Vivo Morphometric Analysis of Human Cranial Nerves Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Menière's Disease Ears and Normal Hearing Ears. J. Vis. Exp. (2018).This video demonstrates the use of MRI to analyze cranial nerve morphology in the ears of patients suffering from a chronic inner ear disorder. It outlines the steps for performing a high magnetic field MRI scan on the patient, reconstructing the high-resolution 3D cross-sectional images of the cranial nerves,...
