Myocardial Deformation Analysis

Myocardial deformation analysis is an imaging-based method for quantifying how heart muscle changes shape and moves during the cardiac cycle, providing information beyond conventional measurements of chamber size and ejection fraction. Using echocardiographic speckle tracking or related motion-tracking techniques, it follows identifiable patterns within the myocardium and calculates deformation, commonly reported as strain and strain rate, in longitudinal, circumferential, or radial directions. Clinicians and researchers use these measurements to assess systolic function, detect subtle myocardial dysfunction, evaluate cardiomyopathies and ischemic injury, and monitor treatment effects. The approach supports earlier, more sensitive characterization of cardiac performance in clinical and research settings.

2016

Speckle tracking echocardiography is an emerging diagnostic imaging technique for the quantitative assessment of global and regional myocardial performance. Standard view echocardiographic motion images are recorded and deformation parameters are subsequently measured by automated continuous frame-by-frame tracking and motion analysis of speckles within the B-mode images of the myocardium.

Plastic Deformations

2024

Plastic deformation represents a fundamental concept in materials science, which explains the irreversible change in the shape of a material when it experiences stress beyond its elastic capability. This phenomenon is important in structural engineering, especially in designing and analyzing cantilever beams—structures that are securely fixed at one end and bear loads at the opposite end. When these beams are subjected to loads within their elastic range, they will return to their original...
