Peritoneal Integrity Loss

Peritoneal integrity loss is disruption of the peritoneum, the mesothelial membrane that lines the abdominal cavity and helps separate organs from surrounding tissues. It can occur when injury, infection, inflammation, surgery, or disease damages mesothelial cells and the underlying barrier, altering fluid exchange and local immune protection. This disruption may promote adhesion formation, leakage of abdominal contents, inflammation, or impaired healing, depending on its cause and severity. In medicine, understanding peritoneal integrity loss supports evaluation of acute abdominal conditions, postoperative complications, peritonitis, and abdominal trauma, while guiding efforts to preserve tissue barriers, reduce adhesions, and improve surgical recovery.

Ovarian cancer metastasis is characterized by numerous diffuse intra-peritoneal lesions, such that accurate visual quantitation of tumor burden is challenging. Herein we describe a method for in situ and ex vivo quantitation of metastatic tumor burden using red fluorescent protein (RFP)-labeled tumor cells and optical imaging.

Line Loss

2024

The different configurations of source-load connections include wye (star) and delta connections. The relationship between line and phase voltages and currents varies depending on the configuration. When the source is supplying power, it is transmitted through the wires to the load, and during this transmission, some power is absorbed by the wires, leading to line loss. Line loss impacts power delivery efficiency in a balanced three-phase circuit. The symmetry in such a circuit simplifies the...

The peritoneal cavity in mammals contains different immune cell populations crucial for innate immune responses. An efficient isolation method is required for biochemical and functional analyses of these cells. Here we provide a comprehensive method for the isolation of peritoneal cavity cells in the mouse.

Piping Networks and Pressure Losses

Source: Alexander S Rattner, Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA This experiment introduces the measurement and modeling of pressure losses in piping networks and internal flow systems. In such systems, frictional flow resistance from channel walls, fittings, and obstructions causes mechanical energy in the form of fluid pressure to be converted to heat. Engineering analyses are needed to size flow hardware to ensure...
