Post-surgical Monitoring

Post-surgical monitoring is the systematic assessment of a patient’s recovery after an operation, helping clinicians detect complications and guide safe transition through postoperative care. It combines repeated checks of vital signs, consciousness, pain, respiratory and cardiovascular function, fluid balance, surgical wounds, drains, and relevant laboratory results; changes from expected recovery patterns can prompt timely intervention. In medicine, this process supports early recognition of bleeding, infection, respiratory compromise, or other adverse events while informing analgesia, mobilization, nutrition, and discharge decisions. Continuous or intermittent monitoring is tailored to the procedure, anesthesia, comorbidities, and clinical risk, improving the safety and quality of surgical recovery.
