Robotic Pancreaticoduodenectomy

Robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy is a minimally invasive form of the Whipple procedure that removes the pancreatic head, duodenum, gallbladder, and distal bile duct, often with regional lymph nodes, to treat selected diseases in this complex anatomical region. Through small abdominal ports, the surgeon controls a robotic platform that provides magnified three-dimensional visualization and articulated instruments for precise dissection, vascular control, and reconstruction of the digestive tract. The procedure is used primarily for selected pancreatic head and periampullary tumors, and may support reduced incision-related morbidity while maintaining the principles of open surgery. Its complexity makes careful patient selection and advanced surgical expertise essential.

Application of Simplified Stent-bridging Pancreaticogastrostomy in Open Pancreaticoduodenectomy

2026

Here, we present the stent-bridging pancreaticogastrostomy (PG) technique, which uses a stent to bridge the remnant pancreas to the stomach during open pancreaticoduodenectomy. The stent-bridging PG aims to simplify the anastomosis, achieve complete diversion of pancreatic juice, and minimize manipulation of the pancreatic remnant.

Robotic Duodenum-preserving Total Pancreatic Head Resection for Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasms

2026

This protocol presents robotic duodenum-preserving total pancreatic head resection (R-DPPHRt) for intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs). A video demonstrates the technique in a patient with main duct-IPMN, highlighting its feasibility as a minimally invasive, organ-preserving alternative to pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Robotic Duodenal Sleeve Resection for Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor with Rare Exon 8 KIT Mutation Following Neoadjuvant Imatinib

2026

This video case report demonstrates the unique management of a duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumor with a rare, understudied, exon 8 KIT mutation. Neoadjuvant therapy resulted in a 30% reduction in tumor size, making the patient a candidate for a robotic-assisted duodenal sleeve resection instead of the more morbid pancreaticoduodenectomy.
