Vascular Stapler

A vascular stapler is a surgical instrument that simultaneously seals and divides blood vessels, helping control bleeding during procedures that require vessel transection. The device places one or more staggered rows of staples across the vessel, compressing tissue to create a secure closure while an integrated cutting blade separates the vessel between the staple lines. Vascular staplers are used in open and minimally invasive operations, including thoracic, abdominal, and oncologic surgery, where they can shorten dissection time and reduce the need for manual ligation. Proper selection of stapler size and careful assessment of vessel diameter, tissue thickness, and surrounding anatomy support safe, reliable outcomes.

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is performed to treat obesity and diabetes. However, the mechanisms underlying RYGB's efficacy are not fully understood, and studies are limited by technical difficulty leading to high mortality in animal models. This article provides instructions on how to perform RYGB in rats with high success rates.

Tools used for visualizing vascular regeneration require methods for contrasting the vascular trees. This film demonstrated a delicate injection technique used to achieve optimal contrasting of the vascular trees and illustrate the potential benefits resulting from a detailed analysis of the resulting specimen using µCT and histological serial sections.
