Time Constrained Stereo

Time-constrained stereo is a computational approach to estimating three-dimensional structure from paired images when processing time is limited. It combines stereo correspondence, which identifies matching features in left and right views, with geometric triangulation that converts the disparity between those views into depth while meeting a predefined time constraint. In medicine, this framework can support real-time interpretation of endoscopic or other medical image data, where timely spatial information may assist image-guided procedures and clinical decision-making. Its value lies in balancing reconstruction accuracy with computational efficiency, making three-dimensional perception more practical for time-sensitive systems.

This protocol uses multi-view stereo to generate three-dimensional (3D) models out of uncalibrated sequences of photographs, making it affordable and adjustable to a surgical setting. Strain maps between the 3D models are quantified with spline-based isogeometric kinematics, which facilitate representation of smooth surfaces over coarse meshes sharing the same parameterization.

Stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) aids in localization of epileptogenic zones, however, remains relatively underutilized in the United States. The goal of this abstract is to provide a brief introduction to the technique of SEEG and further a detailed technique of using robotic assistance in the placement of SEEG electrodes.
