Stress Induction Protocol

A stress induction protocol is a standardized experimental procedure that elicits a measurable physiological or behavioral stress response under controlled conditions, allowing researchers to study how organisms respond to challenge. Depending on the model, the protocol may use psychological, environmental, or physical stressors that engage the sympathetic nervous system and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, producing changes in arousal, hormone release, and behavior. In neuroscience, these paradigms support investigation of stress circuitry, cognition, emotion, and neural plasticity, while controlled timing and intensity improve comparisons across experiments and help evaluate interventions that modify stress-related function.

Source: Yan, Z., et al. Evaluating the Anti-depression Effect of Xiaoyaosan on Chronically-stressed Mice. J. Vis. Exp. (2019).The video demonstrates the process of establishing a mouse model of chronic stress-induced depression and assessing depressive behaviors. The chronic application of various stressors triggers the release of corticosterone, leading to neuronal over-excitation and eventual neuronal death, which results in depression-like symptoms in the mice.

Source: Yong P. Chen, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, College of Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN This experiment will use inductive coils to demonstrate the concept of inductor and inductance. Magnetic induction will be demonstrated using a rod magnet inserted into or extracted away from the core of a coil to induce a transient electromotive force (emf) voltage in the coil, measured by a voltmeter. This experiment will also demonstrate the mutual inductance between...

VFD-fed AC Induction Machine

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. Variable frequency drives (VFDs) are a type of adjustable speed drive, which are becoming standard equipment to power most AC induction motors. VFDs are common in industrial and automation applications and typically provide robust control of the motor in speed, torque, or position modes. The VFDs tested and simulated in this experiment focus on speed and open-loop control with constant voltage to...
