Swim Posture Analysis

Swim posture analysis is the systematic assessment of body alignment and movement during swimming, providing insight into how posture influences locomotion and motor control. It typically examines body position, joint angles, head and trunk orientation, and limb coordination across the stroke cycle using video or motion-tracking data. In neuroscience, these measurements help relate swimming performance to sensorimotor integration, balance, coordination, and the neural control of rhythmic movement. The approach supports research on motor learning and adaptation, while also helping evaluate altered movement patterns in neurological disorders, compare swimming techniques, and assess changes following training or rehabilitation.

2016

An efficient and simple methodology for computer-based analysis of nematode swimming behavior in liquid is described. The method requires little to no investment for C. elegans laboratories. The hardware used is standard, and the computer software for the behavioral analysis (CeleST) is an open source one.

This protocol describes the forced swim test, which is used for the study of depressive-like behavior in rodents. This procedure involves placing an animal in a container filled with water that eventually will lead to the exhibition of immobility behavior, which is considered to reflect behavioral despair.

Measuring the impacts of environmental contaminants on fish behavior is often subjective and challenging particularly when dealing with sublethal endpoints. We describe methods including video technology to quantify swimming behavior of early life stage white sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus) during and after 96 hr acute exposures to various concentrations of copper.
