Theophylline Use

Theophylline use refers to the clinical application of theophylline, a methylxanthine drug that helps manage reversible airflow limitation in conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It promotes bronchodilation primarily by inhibiting phosphodiesterases, which increases intracellular cyclic AMP, and by antagonizing adenosine receptors; its effects depend on dose, metabolism, and drug interactions. Because theophylline has a narrow therapeutic index and variable clearance, treatment requires careful dosing and monitoring of serum concentrations to balance respiratory benefits against adverse effects such as nausea, insomnia, tremor, arrhythmias, and seizures. Its pharmacology illustrates the importance of therapeutic drug monitoring and individualized medication management.

Three-dimensional co-culture spheroid angiogenesis assay system is designed to mimic the physiologic angiogenesis. Co-culture spheroids are formed by two human vascular cell precursors, ECFCs and MSCs, and embedded in collagen gel. The new system is effective for evaluating angiogenic modulators, and provides more relevant information to the in vivo study.
