Clinical Psychologist Training

Clinical psychologist training is the structured education and supervised preparation required to assess, diagnose, and treat mental, emotional, and behavioral conditions using psychological science. It typically integrates foundational coursework, research methods, clinical assessment, evidence-based psychotherapy, ethical standards, and progressively supervised practice, allowing trainees to connect theory with patient care while developing professional judgment. Through practica, internships, and other regulated experiences, trainees learn to formulate cases, select appropriate interventions, evaluate outcomes, and collaborate with healthcare professionals. This preparation supports safe, culturally responsive services across hospitals, clinics, schools, and community settings, while also building skills for psychological research, prevention, program development, and the advancement of mental health care.
