Incidence Rates

Incidence rates quantify the occurrence of new cases of a disease, condition, or event within a population at risk during a specified period, making them essential for measuring risk and tracking changes over time. They are calculated by dividing the number of new cases by the population at risk, often expressing the result per a fixed number of people or using person-time to account for differing observation periods. In statistics and epidemiology, incidence rates support comparisons among populations, evaluation of risk factors, assessment of prevention programs, and planning for healthcare resources. Unlike prevalence, they focus specifically on newly occurring cases.

Incidence of Tax I

2025

Inelastic demand refers to a situation where the quantity demanded of a good changes minimally in response to price fluctuations. Goods with inelastic demand, such as essential commodities like rice, exhibit this behavior because consumers prioritize these goods regardless of price changes. In economic terms, the demand curve for these goods is steep, reflecting minimal sensitivity to price. When a tax is imposed on a good with inelastic demand, such as rice, the supply curve shifts leftward...

Elastic demand occurs when a small change in price results in a significant change in the quantity demanded. Luxury goods typically exhibit elastic demand since they are not essential, and consumers are more sensitive to price changes. The demand curve for these goods is relatively flat, indicating that even the slightest price increases can lead to large reductions in sales. When the government imposes higher taxes on luxury goods, the supply curve shifts leftward as production costs rise,...

Prevalence and Incidence

2025

In statistical epidemiology and health sciences, two essential metrics—prevalence and incidence—are fundamental for understanding disease dynamics within a population. These measures enable public health officials, epidemiologists, and researchers to assess the burden of diseases, allocate resources effectively, and design impactful public health policies and interventions. Prevalence indicates the proportion of individuals in a population who have a specific disease or health condition at a...

Using Neutron Spin Echo Resolved Grazing Incidence Scattering to Investigate Organic Solar Cell Materials

2014

Progress has been made in utilizing spin echo resolved grazing incidence scattering (SERGIS) as a neutron scattering technique to probe the length-scales in irregular samples. Crystallites of [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester have been probed using the SERGIS technique and the results confirmed by optical and atomic force microscopy.
